It is 3 h from Cartagena and 1 h from Sincelejo. Its strategic position defines it as the closest continental town to the archipelago of San Bernardo, consisting of Isla Pájaro, Isla Palma, Isla Tintipán, Isla Múcura, Santa Cruz del Islote, Isla Mangle and Isla Ceycén.
